Time will say nothing but I told you so,
Time only knows the price we have to pay;

If we should weep when clowns put on their show,

The winds must come from somewhere when they blow,

I would tell if I knew... I wish someone would tell me. We really never know what's going to happen tomorrow... only time can reveal it to us. I believe that's what Auden meant.
